ANDAMAN AND NICOBAR The paradise islands

Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India consisting of 572 islands, of which only 38 are inhabited. It is situated at the junction of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea. The territory is about 150 km (93 mi) north of Aceh in Indonesia and separated from Thailand and Myanmar by the Andaman Sea.






BEST TIME TO VISIT

Andaman being an island enjoys a tropical climate. The best thing about Andaman is that it is a year-round destination, where fluctuations in temperatures are minimal and stay pleasant throughout. The best time to visit Andaman & Nicobar Islands is considered between October and May as the weather is pleasant, just perfect for sightseeing, water sports, and beach excursion. Monsoons (July to September) are not always recommended because of the high tidal waves, incessant rains, and strong winds.

1. CELLULAR JAIL, PORT BLAIR

Cellular Jail is one of the most historically significant monuments in the Andaman Islands. It was used by the British officers to exile the prisoners from India.

4. CHIDIYA TAPU, PORT BLAIR

Andaman’s Bird Island or Chidiya Tapu is a carpet of rich mangrove forests that host numerous species of birds. This eco-park, at the southernmost tip of the South Andaman Island, is situated at a distance of 28 km from Port Blair, the capital of the archipelago. Apart from being a birdwatching paradise, this place is also popular for its picnic spots, trekking trails, and glorious sunset views. The biological park at Chidiya Tapu, with its rich and diverse flora and fauna, is also a must-visit. One of the main attractions of Chidiya tapu is its Sunset Point. From here, you can get glorious views of the setting sun as it dips into the stretching Bay of Bengal. Chidiya tapu also has a mini zoo, which is worth a visit.




5. RADHANAGAR BEACH, HAVELOCK ISLAND

Situated on the western coast of Havelock Island, Radhanagar Beach is a popular tourist destination in the Andaman Islands. Radhanagar Beach makes it is a perfect stop for those looking to spend some time peacefully in the midst of nature while feasting on delicious food from cafes selling all sorts of cuisines ranging from traditional to global. With its breathtaking sunsets and mesmerizing sunrises, this beach is something straight out of a wonderland.




6. NORTHBAY ISLAND, PORT BLAIR

WAYS TO REACH


BY AIR

The Andaman Islands have numerous flights flying from the mainland for the transfers of passengers and necessary goods. Indian’s have no permit restrictions for Andaman. The quickest way to reach Andaman is by flight. There are direct flights to Andaman from Kolkata, Bangaluru, and Chennai approximating 2.5 hours of travel time. Connecting flights to these destinations are available from most other cities. Flights from Delhi fly via Chennai or Kolkata and take around 5 hours.


BY SEA

Passenger ships to Port Blair ply from Chennai, Kolkata, and Vishakapatnam. The sailing schedules are announced a month in advance so you’ll need to keep a lookout for them. The Andaman government website is where you can look. Here is the link:




To visit the Andaman and Nicobar beaches, you require permission from the concerned authorities. These natural resources of the region are protected and preserved as tourist attractions.
